It is the New Year and the club wishes all members the best for 2015 , and looks forward to the new season in the Spring.

Meanwhile, the club continues to 'keep its eye in' with some indoor games against local clubs. At Handy Cross where some members are also playing indoors for the winter, the Club is taking part for the first time in the Handy Cross Shield, a friendly competition between nine representative teams of 3 triples, including Wycombe, Marlow and Handy Cross themselves.

The Round Robin phase was completed in early January when we met Wycombe Swans who beat us by 2 rinks to 1. However this one rink victory was enough to avoid 9th spot, and put us into the knockout stages where we start with a quarter-final game against Marlow later this month. The team has been selected and is posted on the appropriate page of this website.

NOTICE ; Remember the pre-Christmas meet-up and Christmas Card exchange which will be held at the Clubhouse on Saturday 13th December, from 10.30 - 12.00. There will be tea/coffeee/Mincepies, probably a Raffle, and definitely the chance to have a chat and exchange Christmas Cards with friends from the club. For those who choose not to send cards, there is an opportunity to make a donation in lieu of cards, which will be passed to a local charity.

WE LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING AS MANY AS CAN MAKE IT

RESULT ; following the AGM on Saturday, the club fielded a team in the Handy Cross Shield, a small indoor tournament involving 9 teams, played through the season to a final in March.

In the first of our 'round-robin' games, we met the Handy Cross 'home' side, and were duly put in our place as novice late-comers, being beaten in all three triples, and overall by 83 -21. Nevertheless our opponents were gracious in victory, and we all have to start somewhere !

AGM ; The 2014 AGM took place on Saturday, with a good turn out, so most readers will be aware of the healthy bank balances and other outcomes from the various votes and proposals.

In short, the un-opposed members of the committee were duly ratified, and the contested role of Fixture Secretary was won by Pat McKay, and the two 'member' slots were filled by Roger Darbourne and Pam Anderson. There are still vacancies for Club Secretary and Social Secretary , but these ommissions will be resolved within the new committee unless any new volunteers emerge.

The suggested change to reduce the 2015 pairs competitions to three-woods was defeated, but an alternative suggestion to resctrict these 4-wood games to 18 instead of 21 ends, was formally put forward and approved.

Details of the other reports and comments will be covered by the formal minutes in due course.

RESULT ; The indoor friendly match against Watford IBC took place at their club on Saturday Nov 1st, and as usual we were up against a solid team who took early advantage of our slow start on a new green. Whilst we improved in the latter phases, we still went down convincingly by 63 - 162 , narrowly avoiding a three-figure deficit, losing by only 99 shots. We did manage one Top Rink, and congratulations to John Pink, Candi Ivey and John Anderson who took that honour.

CSG Memorial Hall Quiz Night ; The Village Memorial Hall where short-mat takes place, holds a fundraising quiz twice a year, and club members have made up teams over recent events, the latest of which was on Wednesday 29th October. 2 tables of 8 took part, and a good time was had by all.

There were two prizes, one for the winners and one for the 'wooden spooners' . Congratulations go to Mike Alderton and his team for contriving to win one of these prizes for the second time ! (Maybe they can try harder next time, and go for the winners spot instead. ?) The other table managed to end up mid-table, but if other club members would like to get involved and support the hall, contact Tim Baldwin or Mike Alderton and we could try to ring some changes next time around!

NOTICE ; The team for the first Handy Cross Shield match, indoors against Handy Cross on the afternoon of November 8th, has been posted in the clubhouse and on this website. Remember that this is the same day as the AGM being held at the clubhouse in the morning, and plan accordingly.

NOTICE ; Remember that the first off-season social is being held this Wednesday Oct 15th , and all are welcome from around 10 oclock for 10.30

RESULT; The indoor season of friendly matches got off to a difficult start with a new match at Handy Cross, High Wycombe, who we have not played for some time. We managed one winning rink, thanks to Staff Burbridge, Graham Buchanan and Rob Kirby, (17-15), but otherwise we lost on all other rinks, and by 69 - 139 overall.

YOUR NEXT COMMITTEE ; The sheet listing the management committee roles and seeking nominations for the year 2014-15, has been posted in the club house as required by the constitition. Please indicate your interest in the next few weeks whilst the summer season draws to a close, to allow time for postal ballots etc, should voting be required, to take place ahead of the AGM on November 8th

END OF SEASON. The season was brought to a close with our traditional Ladies v Gents match, with a full green of 7 triples, on a gloriously sunny day, and a close final score giving the gnts the edge by 107 to 103. The kitchen provided a baked potato buffet to end the day, and members did their best to clear the bar for the winter off-season. The green will be 'put to bed' over the next few days with a full treatment of scarifying and top dressing, and all assistance to the green team will be appreciated.

Good luck to all those who bowl indoors over the winter, either Handy Cross or Watford, or Short-mat, and all members are reminded of the matches arranged for the club against indoor teams in the area, and the sheets for these are on the clubhouse walls.

RESULT ; Our final match of the season was against Hazells at Aylesbury, and although we had two winning rinks and a draw, we lost the match overall by 91 to 124. Well done to Top Rink Flora Alderton, Bobbie Richards and Allan Rumble.

RESULT ; JUBILEE CUP ; The re-run of the Jubilee Cup for drawn pairs took place on Sunday 21st September, with a lovely sunny day to justify the event and the Barbecue that fed the participants and supporters alike.

The competition was closely fought in two groups, with John Anderson and Janet Kemp winners from one section, and Lyn Carroll and Colin Kemp from the other. The latter finalist was only decided after a count back in a very competitive section. This allowed a final between these two, and it was a story back to the 'Janet and John' series of our youth.

"Janet and John go bowling" Switching to an un-used rink for the 8-end final, all parties found the new green slower and trickier than those on which they had won through, and all will admit that the heads were not as competitive as in the group stages. J & J went into an early lead, but Lyn & Colin woke up after three ends and started a comeback. Unfortunately it was not enough, and Janet & John hung on for a one-shot victory, a bottle of wine each, and their names on the trophy.

A most enjoyable day, and thanks to Maureen Burbridge for the organisation, Dave Harding for the BBQ and Lyn, Liz and Maureen Harding and their helpers, for the rest of the catering through the day.

NOTICE ; Indoor Bowling at Handy Cross. As some of our new members ex-Broomwade will know, The Indoor Bowls Club at Handy Cross , High Wycombe, runs a small league tournament over the Winter months between representative teams of outdoor clubs. Chalfont St Giles have been asked to take on the old Broomwade slot, so there are betweem 2 and 5 matches which will take place dependant on our success in the early matches. Full details are posted in the clubhouse, with applicant sheets for the first two games.

RESULT ; On Saturday Sept 20th, we played a friendly away at Denham in our penultimate match of the season and although we won on two rinks, we went down on the other three, and to a 87 - 113 overall defeat. Well done to our Top Rink of Joyce Cripps, Pam Dyer, Bernard Bailey & Candi Ivey (23-17), and we also wish Beryl a speedy recovery from the 'turn' that curtailed her afternoons bowling.

RESULT ; On Thursday 18th Sept we played Pinner in a friendly match and unfortunately we lost by 69 - 96 points. Our one winning rink was Jean Jackman, Pam Anderson and Staff Burbridge who won by 18 - 16 shots.

RESULT ; We played our home friendly against Tring on Tuesday, and it was another fine afternoon, with an extra internal triple to accomodate an over-subscribed application.

The match was finely balanced throughout, but in the end we lost on three of the five triples, two only marginally, but by 80 -91 overall. Our top rink was Nick Nicholls, Liz Baldwin and Mike Alderton. Thanks also to Mike for captaining at short notice in Tim's absence.

NOTICE ; Over the weekend, the draw took place for the Jubilee Cup event, which is due to be re-run on September 21st.. If you were not there, and want to know your partner, a list will be posted in the clubhouse. Otherwise be at the club for 10.00 when the format for the day will be advised.

RESULT ; On Thursday we played Croxley Guild in a friendly match and we managed to win by 94 points to 82, having won on 3 out of 5 rinks. Our top rink was Rose Kirby, Maureen Harding and Ian McLeod, who won 32-9. It was a nice enjoyable afternoon.

RESULT ; On Tuesday we entertained Stoke Poges in a return friendly, having narrowly lost to them away in August. Our hopes of reversing this result at home were not to be, however, and despite winning on two of the four rinks, we lost overall by 58 - 87, due in part to a particularly heavy defeat by the mid-week captain ! (Apologies to all !)

We did manage a Top Rink, and congratulations to Jean Jackman, Colin Richards and Allan Rumble, who won by 21-17.

RESULT ; Our Ladies played Chesham in a friendly match at home on Monday afternoon, 8th September, on a beautiful sunny and warm afternoon, but lost overall by 41 - 49. Top Rink for Chalfont went to Beryl Ralley, Janet Kemp and Jean Jackman.

NOTICE ; As the outside season draws to a close, don't forget that we have a number of indoor fixtures over the winter, and the first two matches, against Handy Cross and Watford on 11th October and 1st November respectively, will be posted on Monday, and names are sought so that the teams can be picked before the end of the season.

RESULT ; The return friendly match against Cippenham was held on Sunday, and following our defeat away to them on Thursday, it was pleasing to reverse the scores and win by 94 shots to 61, with Top Rink Sylvia Webb, Colin Kemp and George Ivey. (Although no-one was counting, this gave an aggregate result of 151 to 128)

RESULT ; The Thursday friendly was away to Cippenham and unfortunately we lost the match, 57 - 67 but had one winning rink, and therefore Top Rink, through Denise Rogers, Candi Ivey & John Anderson who won their game 20-13. We entertain Cippenham at home on Sunday, so we hope to reverse this result on home turf.

NOTICE ; It has been decided to adjust the final events of the season, to incorporate the Jubilee Cup that had to be cancelled on the wet Bank Holiday. However because it appears that members would prefer to retain the Ladies v Gents match, the new dates are as follows ; Please add your names to the notices on the clubhouse noticeboards.

Sept 21st Jubilee Cup , a drawn team event from 10.00 approx , with a BBQ lunch. The format (inc Pairs or Triples?), will depend on numbers of applicants.

Sept 28th Ladies v Gents from 14.00 approx with a "friday night" Baked-Spud buffet to conclude the season.

NOTICE ; All those who applied to come to the end-of-season dinner and presentation event on November 15th should have received the details of the menu and a request to pay for their place to be returned to the social secretary, Lyn Carroll.
If you have not received this communication, or wish to be added to the list for the evening, please contact Lyn a.s.a.p.

In any event, all payments and choices should be returned not later than Sept 13th , (Finals Weekend) Thanks, and heres looking forward to a good evening at Harewood Downs Golf Club.

RESULT ; On Tuesday we played the away leg of our friendly with Court Park. On a beautiful day, and a very consistent green, we were only able to win on one rink, losing overall by 72 - 98. We managed a Top Rink with Maureen Burbridge, Allan Rumble and Denise Williams, and a further consolation was that we lost by less than we had managed to win by in our home fixture. "Honours Even" and we look forward to our next match in May next year.!

RESULT ; Our Annual friendly against Aston Clinton was played at their ground this year, on Sunday Aug 31st. The weather and their location were both beautiful, but we encountered a tricky green which the home team managed better than we did.! As a result we unfortunately went down by 71 shots to Aston Clinton's 108 , but still had one winning ( & therefore Top) Rink, with Janice Batkins, Pam Anderson and Tim Baldwin.

RESULT ; On Saturday we entertained Glory Mill to a friendly match, and proved too strong for them, claiming all 4 rinks, and emerging winners by 87 - 47. Our Top Rink was Dave Harding, Hazel Baker and Rob Kirby.

NOTICE ;  FINALS WEEKEND.  The schedule for the two days of Finals Weekend 13th/14th September will be posted on the club boards on Tuesday,  and can be found on the Competitions Page of this website now.  Please note the 10.00 start on both days, which is slightly earlier than the draft copy posted over the weekend, and the requirement for all participants to wear WHITES.   Food will be available at lunchtime on both days, (book ahead on Maureen's notice for choice of ploughmans) so please come to the club to support the finalists and enjoy the culmination of this years competitions.

NOTICE ; It is hoped that the Jubilee Cup  which was abandoned last Monday, will be tried again in place of the Ladies v Gents  on Sept  21st.  Confirmation and format  will be determined after the Committee meeting later this week, and invitation sheets should be posted for this and the final event of the season on Sept 28th before next weekend.  Remember the final friday social evening on the 5th when the winner of the Fearnley Cup for the triples roll-up will be decided.

RESULT ; The friendly match played away against Berkhamsted on Wednesday resulted in a comfortable victory for Chalfont,  104 - 73.  Our Top Rink was Sylvia Webb, Bill Bowler and Mike Alderton who won their game by 28 -11.

COMPETITIONS ;    As the semi-final stages progress,  the finalists begin to emerge. l done to Rosella finalists, Candi Ivey and Anne Darbourne.  Other pairings will be confirmed in due course.

NOTICE ;  The Men's match against Amersham on Tuesday has been CANCELLED, due the weather and the  state of their greens.  Those involved should have been advised directly.

Jubilee Cup ;   Unfortunately our massed finger-crossing was unsuccessful and the weather caused the early curtailment and cancellation of the Bank Holiday event, though most participants stayed for a sociable morning in the clubhouse, and a good lunch thanks to Maureen Burbridge and her team of helpers.  It is hoped to re-schedule the Cup before the end of the season, and further information will be posted in due course.

HARD LUCK to our Ladies team who lost in the Trundle Quarter-finals today against Bletchley at Waddesdon.   Well  done to Rose Kirby, Bobbie Richards, Anne Darbourne , Carol Crowford, Denise Williams, Maureen Harding, Pat McKay and Pam Anderson who met a better team on the day, and on a very fast and unfamiliar surface.  Thanks also to the many supporters who travelled to Waddesdon, and to the host club who entertained all their visitors for both quarterfinals. In the other match, Newport Pagnell beat Cippenham, so both honours went to teams from  the Milton Keynes area.   Better luck to South Bucks next year !

NOTICE ;  The Friday evening drawn triples are nearing their conclusion with two weeks to go to the final night on Sept 5th.  The winner with the best average over at least 10 weeks play, will be announced, and the cup awarded, at about 8 oclock that evening (5th Sept).  The list of placings as at 1st August can be found on the 'Friday night is Clubnight' page  of this website.

WELL DONE ; The various Gala trips that are made by members are not regularly reported, but this week was particularly successful for some of our ladies;  Windsor Great Park held an event on Thursday at which Flora Alderton, Candi Ivey and Pam Anderson were winners.

On the following day, at the larger Amersham Gala, two Chalfont teams gained 1st and 2nd places. Well done to Carol Crowford, Denise Rogers and Beryl Ralley, and runners-up Rose Kirby, Pam Anderson and Candi Ivey.

RESULT ; The Saturday match was the annual visit by the Bucks VP team, which proved to be another closely run affair.  Chalfont won on 4 of the 6 rinks,  but the VPs still overhauled us to win by 114 - 107, despite the brief respite taken from the heavy shower that interrupted the second half of the match.  Our Top rink was Staff Burbridge, Linda James Hazel Baker & John Anderson.

RESULT ; On Thursday, we returned to Wexham to play in a friendly triples. After our recent 3 Counties defeat, and acknowledging that the teams were somewhat different, it was a relief to turn the tables and win on all rinks, and emerge with a win by 102-63. Despite the cooler temperature and intermittent rain threats, all parties enjoyed this more relaxed encounter, and our Top Rink was Joyce Cripps, Liz Baldwin and George Ivey (23-9).

RESULT ; The friendly mixed triples against Stoke Poges was played on Wednesday  and the result involved wins on two rinks and losses on the other two. Unfortunately the overall outcome was a narrow defeat by 3 shots, 58-61.  Our Top Rink was Barry Dyer, Maureen Harding and Bob Crowford (16-12).

NOTICE ; As the competitions have all reached semi-final stage or  weekend are kept free, to allow the scheduling to remain as flexible as possible.  We hope to maintain the two main singles finals (Men & Ladies) on Saturday afternoon, with the other finals arranged around this target. Any member who has difficulty with this is asked to advise the competitions committee (Tim B or Graham B) as soon as possible.  With 9 players still in three or more competitions each, this scheduling promises to be an interesting exercise. !

RESULT ;  On Monday we played Harrow, in a fixture that has recently been played solely at Chalfont.  Therefore this was possibly the inaugural away fixture, so congratulations to all the team in finding the club, and car parking, without a map in the clubhouse folder !  (This will be rectified)  Congratulations are also in order for a successful match, which was won by 87 shots to 78.  A comfortable tea-time lead was eroded in the second half, but we won on three out of five matches, with Top Rink being disputed between Rose Kirby  Michael Facey & Roger Darbourne, and Flora Alderton, Bobbie Richards & Graeme Richards, both with a shot difference of 10, but honours on shots scored, going to Roger's team.

UPDATE ; The team selection for the Berkhamsted friendly on Aug 27th has now been picked. Apologies for the delay

RESULT     The 3Counties match against Bassetsbury Manor on Sat 16th Aug was a narrow win to Chalfont with a shot score of 94 - 93 and a win of 8 points to 4 . Our top rink was Janet Kemp, Janice Batkins, John Anderson and Tony Batkins.

RESULT     The friendly match played against the Chesham Pioneers on Thursday was interrupted by rain at times so it was not possible to complete all ends. The final result had Chalfont leading  29 shots to 22.

RESULT ;   The Ladies match against Chesham was a win for Chalfont St Giles with a points total of 65 - 41.  Our top rink was Janet Kemp, Liz Storrar and Carol Crowford

RESULT ;   On Tuesday we played a friendly away against Pinner.  Dodging the showers, we had an exciting afternoon. At tea we were losing on all rinks, with a total score of 22- 61, so it was a credit to all rinks that we pulled back in the second half,  to a final score of 73-94.  We also had a Top Rink, with Sylvia Webb, Allan Rumble and Staff Burbridge , who won two 7-point ends to achieve a 23-20 victory.  Congratulations also to new member Stephen Shearing, on his first match for the club.

We look forward to the return match with Pinner in mid-September.

NOTICE ;  The winners from the competitions in 2014 will be required to return their (cleaned?) Trophies to Tim Baldwin or Graham Buchanan before the end of August, so that they can be available for the Finals weekend.  Please contact Tim or Graham to effect a handover, and NOT leave them lying around at the Club. Thanks to those concerned.

NOTICE ;, as prepared and submitted by Greenkeeper Roger Darbourne. Members' attention is drawn to a new page on this website, which is entitled State of the Green

NOTICE ; Members might have noticed, but the coaches are focussing on Monday mights to be available for training sessions for those who want (or need) it.  Please look at the Coaching Corner of the notice boards, for more information.  The Coaching page on this website will be updated shortly.

RESULT :  Sunday was not a good day.  In the morning we suffered under ex-hurricane Bertha, and in the afternoon we suffered in the 3 Counties game away to Wexham.  Unfortunately our opponents proved too good on all rinks, and we lost heavily, 66 - 121, with Wexham taking all the 12 points, and we had no Top Rink.

NOTICE ;   Not content with our 3 Counties drubbing, we have a friendly with Wexham on Aug 21st. This has been over-subscribed, and Wexham have agreed to a fifth triple, so please note the added names on the team list on the boards.

RESULT ; On Saturday we played our annual friendly with Rickmansworth, and it was our turn to host.  As we had surplus players looking to play, it was good to have the fixture increased to 6 triples, and our opponents commented that they always enjoy coming to Chalfont.  Unfortunately our hospitality did not extend to the greens where we were solid winners by 114 points to 82, winning on 4 of the 6 triples.  Our top rink was close run with two team winning by 12 shots and one by 11, but Patrick Johnson, Colin Richards and Allan Rumble were awarded Top Rink by virtue of points scored.

RESULT ; On Thursday we played the away leg of our 3 Counties game against Flackwell Heath.  After the prolonged rain - postponed efforts on the home leg, the away leg was played in very warm sunshine.  After leading comfortably at half-time, "Everything changed at tea", and we struggled against a Flackwell resurgence.  In the end the result was two wins each, and one rink drawn, but Chalfont scraped home to a win by 84 - 78, gaining 7 points to 5.  Top Rink was Alan Rumble, Liz Baldwin, Graham Buchanan & John Anderson.   After a pleasant meal, we trust that the Flackwell member who was taken poorly is on the road to recovery.

RESULT    ; The friendly against Kings Langley which had been postponed from May was played at their green on Wednesday 6th August.  After a series of early replacements,  attempted loaning of players to KL, and last minute substitutions the match was reduced to 4 triples, albeit with KL playing one person short.   Nevertheless we managed a comfortable 83 - 43 win, with a top rink of Roy Pound, Lyn Carroll & Nick Nicholls who won 25-8 (without the need to reduce the opponents score by 25% as they had offerred due to only fielding 2 players).  A most enjoyable afternoon, and thank you to the patience of all those who had been inconvenienced by the pre-match alterations.

Finally, congratulations to new member Patrick Johnson, on his first match for the club.

LADIES GALA ; The Ladies Invitation Gala was held at the club on Tuesday, and 14 teams had been invited to play three rounds of triples and a culminating meal. After a charity spider, and a rapid re-shuffle to allow a home team to replace one no-show, an enjoyable afternoons bowling was resolved with a win for a team from Chesham , with Stoke Poges as runners up. Congratulations to all the Chalfont members who contributed to another very succesful day for all our guests.

NOTICE  ;  As members will be aware we are operating a Bar Voucher scheme to reward our Top Rinks this season, but it is noticeable that many vouchers have yet to be used. These vouchers are valid for this season only, so holders are encouraged to "use them or lose them", to allow a meaningful review of this initiative at the end of the season.

RESULT We played the away leg of our C&T games against Marlow on Monday and despite drawing on two rinks, we lost the third and thereby the match . Overall score was 44- 59, and we achieved 2 pts to Marlow's 8.  Hard Luck in coming so close !

NOTICE ;  After efforts to augment their team with more of our players came to nought, The Kings Langley match has had to be reduced to 4 triples.  Thanks and apologies to those who had been persuaded to fulfill our team commitment , but hopefully those who have had to be released have all now been informed.  The revised team is now posted on this website, and will shortly be amended on the clubhouse boards.

RESULT ; The Sunday game in the Three Counties League was played away at High Wycombe.  Wycombe won the game 102 - 89, and 8 points to 4, after allowing for Wycombe playing with one player short. ( these points will be subject to a check with the league organisers )  However we had a top rink, Maggie Read, Alan Williams, Lyn Carroll and Tony Batkins, who won 24 - 16.

RESULT ; The Saturday game was a friendly away to Princes Risborough, and despite a damp start, an enjoyable afternoon ended in sunshine.  Chalfont managed to win  three of the five triples, and an overall win  by 82 shots to 70.  Top Rink was a close-run affair between two teams with leads of 9 shots, but honours went to Joyce Cripps, Roy Pound and Graeme Richards who won 19-10, over Bobbie Richards, Hubert Cox and Tim Baldwin (18-9).  Mention must also be made of the third winning group, the all-lady team of Sylvia Webb, Liz Baldwin and Pat McKay.

NOTICE ; The Friday night triples are currently operating from 5.50 for a 6.00 pm start.  This timing will be maintained through to the end of the friday-night season (5th Sept) This is an adjustment to the original intention to start the final few weeks progressively earlier.  This timing will still be subject to review, but any changes will be advertised in the club, on the website, and on the previous friday.

NOTICE ;  In response to a number of requests, Carol Crowford will be running a "Measuring and Marking" session on Thursday August 7th from 5.00 to 7.00pm. This will provide basic instruction for new bowlers but will also serve as a refresher course for more experienced bowlers who would like to brush up their technique, refresh their memories or get answers to any questions they may have.  Those of us who have who have attended such sessions in the past can vouch for their usefulness.

There is a list on the club board where you can put your name down; alternatively, please contact Carol on 01494 876806 so we have some idea of numbers.  If you have a measure please bring it along.
RESULT ; On Thursday July 31st we hosted our annual friendly match against Eastcote Bowling Club, and winning on 4 out of 5 triples, managed a comfortable win by 93 shots to 56.  Our Top rink was Chris Pound, Liz Baldwin & Ian McLeod,  and thanks to the reserves who turned out to play alongside the match, despite being reduced to a pairs game through a last-minute.
NOTICE ; The Ladies Gala is next week, on Tuesday 5th August.  As usual, helpers are needed to set up the day, and contributions are sought for the Raffle, and food tins, bottles or produce towards a Hamper.  Please leave offerings at the club, or to help on the day, please come up around 10.00 on the day to erect Gazebos etc .

RESULT ; On Tuesday we played a friendly away to Bassetsbury, and received a very friendly welcome, but a comfortable defeat !  We won on two rinks, but went down overall by 62 - 76.  Our Top Rink was Flora Alderton, Carol Crowford and Robv Kirby.

RESULT ;  Our first match of the week was a Chiltern & Thames League game against Chesham Broadway at home, when we manged to win on all rinkjs, and emerge winners by 71 - 42.    Top Rink was Hazel Baker, John Anderson and Arthur Thomas (26-11)

Archived  6th August ;

RESULT ; The weekend began with a Three Counties game, away against Harefield Hospital on Saturday. Unfortunately our opposition proved too strong on this occasion, and we lost 74-109.  However we won 2 points through Top Chalfont Rink   Maggy Read. Barry Mills, Hazel Baker and John Anderson.

RESULT ; The Sunday game was a friendly away at Wendover, and although scores were close at half-time, we slipped in the second half, to another overall defeat by 92-108.  We won two rinks out of 5, and did have a top rink, Sylvia Webb, Bill Bowler, Staff Burbridge and Rob Kirby (25-19).   Good company, but not a good weekend for results.!

NOTICE ;    The friendly match against Kings Langley, re-arranged from a postponement in May, will be on Wednesday AUGUST 6th  (and not as incorrectly first posted as being on Monday 4th).  If you are picked, please bear this date in mind when ticking your name.

NOTICE ; To those who have been picked for Bassetsbury on July 29th. (see the team pick page), or who hope to play in the 3C against them on August 16th**.   You may already know but Bassetsbury Manor no longer have a car park. They either park on the road or in the car park at Fushion Leisure(the  Rye). If you use the car park, and don't feel 4 hrs for 80p is long enough, go straight to the clubhouse, report to the bar  where someone will take your car registration number plus £1 and they will do the  rest.  They have negotiated a deal with Fushion Leisure. (Normal fee for over 4 hours  is £5). The car park is just round the corner from the old entrance.

**This is a change to your fixture Card due to the reversal of the two matches against Bassetsbury Manor in the 3 Counties League.  The match on Sunday 22nd June was at Home, and the one on August 16th will be Away.  This is due to an event which happened  close to Bassetsbury's ground on June 22nd. This change will be re-advertised on the sheets when posted.

RESULT :  On Thursday, we played a friendly at home against Wexham. We had a good sign-up for this match, and the reserves played internally in parallel with the match, which we won by 75- 65.  Top Rink was Candi Ivey, Bryan Hedley and Ian McLeod.

RESULTS ;  There were two matches on Wednesday, when the men played in the TVL against Cippenham, and the Ladies played a friendly against Gerrards Cross. Unfortunately the men went down by 56 shots to 70, and our only winning rink was Barry Mills, Roger Darbourne and George Ivey (19-18).

The  Ladies match against Gerrards Cross was a win for Chalfont,  by 63 - 40 . Top Chalfont Rink was Maureen Harding, Chris Pound and Lyn Carroll.

No doubt it will be closer when they 'have their eye in' on the return match later in the season. Top Chalfont Rink (after a count-back) was Nick Nicholls, Pam Anderson & Dave Harding, winning 26-7, narrowly ahead of John Anderson's team who won 25-6.

STOP PRESS ;  Regrettably the match against Kings Langley on 7th April has had to be postponed by our opposition, due to the funeral of a long-standing member on that day.  They hope to re-arrange this match if at all possible, and we will advise the outcome of these efforts in due course.

A similar situation has caused the Ladies match against Denham on Thursday 1st to be cancelled as well.  Apologies to all those concerned.

RESULT ; On Tuesday April 29th we played our first midweek friendly at home to Court Park, and managed a convincing win by 100 shots to 66.  The loomimg rain clouds never materialised and a sunny afternoon was enloyed by everyone, especially our Top Rink,   Janet Kemp, Chris Pound and Rob Kirby, who won 30 - 8 .

RESULT ; On Sunday we visited Stoke Poges and narrowly missed a second win.  We lost this friendly 70 - 76 overall, despite our Top Rink withJ oyce Cripps, Nick Nicholls, Maureen Harding and George Ivey who won their game by 16 shots to 13.

RESULT  ;  Our first game of the season was to have been against Uxbridge on wednesday 23rd, but our opponents were unable to raise a team, so members enjoyed an inpromptu roll-up to gain some valuable practice before the weekend matches.

COMPETITIONS The draws took place on Friday April 25th , and the outcomes will be posted in the clubhouse over the weekend

The weather conspired to prevent any bowling, but this allowed the bar to have a good night, and a reasonable turn-out witnessed the draws which were achieved by Tim and Graham without too many glitches !  Archived  6th May

Easter Monday Spoon Drive;   This triples event was held on Bank Holiday Monday, with a full turn out of 42 players to set the season off.  Unfortunately the rain curtailed the third session, but Denise Rogers still emerged the winner, with Mick Lane* as the best gentleman.  The unlucky holder of the wooden spoon was Linda James, but everyone enjoyed getting out onto the greens at last. (* apologies for initial incorrect posting, Mick)

STOP PRESS  The first match of the season against Uxbridge on Wed 23rd April, has been called off due to the opposition failing to raise a team !

Our increased membership must have frightened them off.?  If those members who originally applied for this game and particularly those who had been picked, would like to have a triples roll-up practice anyway, come along at 2 o'clock on wednesday as planned, and we will arrange one !

Easter Monday Spoon Drive;   There has been a very good response to this first club event of the season, and we must note that since 42 is the maximum that the green can accommodate for a triples event, the list will be closed at this number, but any names added thereafter will be considered as reserves in the event that there are any withdrawals between now and Easter. Even if you can't play, we hope that you will come and spectate, fingers crossed for a lovely day !

COMPETITIONS ;  The first deadline for the singles, pairs, and mixed triples is MONDAY 21st APRIL , the day of the spoon drive.  Please ensure that you get your entries to Tim Baldwin or Graham Buchanan by close-of-play on that day.

NOTICE ; The first two week's team picks have been made and are posted on the clubhouse boards. Please tick your name as usual, to register that you have acknowledged this selection and will turn up in good time for the match.  (Half an hour early is always reassuring for the captain !)

These teams have been added to this website on their particular pages.

RESULT ; Hard luck to the team in the last indoor fixture of the winter on Saturday 1st March at Herts Indoor Bowling Club, where we went down on all rinks, but were awarded 'a draw' by our magnanimous opposition, and who were we to argue !

Regrettably the proposed Whist / Beetle drive had to be cancelled last week through low interest, though the mid-week social was well attended.

NOTICE ;  The Pre-season Meeting will be held on Sunday March 23rd starting at 10.30 am.  Further paperwork for the membership renewals and competition entries will be sent out 2-3 weeks before the meeting.

NOTICE ; The fixture list has now been finalised , and the list on this website has been updated.  Personal cards will be distributed to members at the pre-season meeting.

RESULT ;  Apologies for the delay in recording our match against Foxhills on Saturday Feb 8th, but regrettably it was 'nothing to write home about', and we lost on all rinks, going down  67 - 138 overall.  Unfortunately whilst we have a limited number of members bowling indoors over the winter, these events will remain enjoyable, but uncompetitive, social affairs.

Better luck next year !

NOTICE for our short-mat bowlersThe sunday sessions in the Memorial Hall have been curtailed due to the low attendance over recent weeks, and the short mat will be concentrated on friday evenings to the end of the season.  If you want to try short mat with a view to bolstering our numbers next season, please come along on Fridays at 7.00 pm.

RESULT ; We played a further indoor friendly on Tuesday 28th Jan, our second against Watford Indoor Bowling Club.  Unfortunately our hopes of revenge from our defeat here in the autumn were dashed when we went down on all 6 rinks.  Congratulations to Candi Marchant and her team for getting nearest to our opponents, but the overall final score was 72 - 141.

Nevertheless a good time was enjoyed by all, with a fine meal to follow. (..... and next year we will endeavour to get our opposition to align the dress  code with our fixture card!)

RESULT ;   We played our  indoor match at Foxhill on January 13th, involving a team of 6 triples.  Four of the rinks were closely fought, and Chalfont won two, including Top Chalfont Rink of Flora Alderton, Jean Jackman and Tim Baldwin. Unfortunately the final two rinks were rather less balanced, and we lost overall by 84 shots to 115.   We have the chance to reverse the outcome in the second match this season on Feb 8th.The Christmas dinner and presentation evening took place on Saturday November 23rd at Beaconsfield Golf Club, who again did us proud with a fine meal, and cosy surroundings.  The cups and personal plaques for all the years's competitions were distributed by Tim Baldwin and presented by Anne Darbourne (Chaiperson) in place of President Norman Claire who was unable to attend. After-dinner entertainment with singer Beverly Cassidy was accomplished and well-appreciated by everyone, dancers and foot-tappers alike, and those members who were unable to attend missed a most enjoyable evening.

Result ;   We played our only pre-christmas indoor match at Watford IBC in early November, fielding all players following Amersham's withdrawl from this event where we have traditionally played as a combined team.    Despite winning 2 of the 6 triples, we went down overall, but have a chance of revenge in the New Year.
