RESULT ; Our second match against Herts IBC (on Saturday night 28/2, proved as enjoyable as last week, but with similar results. We managed to restrict our opponents to double figures overall but still lost on all rinks, with Mike Alderton again coming closest to a Chalfont win. The actual score of 99 - 48 was declared 'a draw' by our sporting hosts, but we all know that we have some way to go to compete with the indoor clubs. However on the bright side, the next club match is OUTDOORS, with our first match of the season at the end of April.

RESULT The first of our two indoor games against Herts IBC was played on Saturday, and after an enjoyable tussle, Herts emerged as winners by 100 shots to 59. Our Captain's triple, of Denise Rogers, Graham Buchanan and Mike Aderton managed a 13-13 draw, but we were otherwise defeated on the other rinks. However we get a chance of revenge next saturday, with a second match at this popolar venue. In fact we so enjoyed the game, we have since arranged an outdoor match at the end of the summer season, to add to our 2015 fixtures.

NOTICE ; Following the cancellation of the monthly socials in January & February due to the decoration work, the scheduled event in March is still expected to go ahead. Apologies to those who have been disappointed by this clash, but thanks to the limited number of decorator volunteers who have soldiered on to a commendable finish !

100 Club; The February Draw has been made for the 100 Club, and the three winners, who will be contacted by Rose Kirby, are declared as follows ;

Pearl Howl, (get better soon Pearl! ) , Pam Dyer, and Club Captain Mike Alderton.

Less-good News ; Two teams made up of Club members took part in the winter running of the Chalfont St Giles Memorial Hall Quiz night this week, but failed to make an impression in the final reckoning. We were hampered by 4 late withdrawals, all due to illness, though we wish all these a speedy recovery. However the fun is in the taking part, and a good night was enjoyed by all, taking at least two raffle prizes into the bargain !

Good News ; As many members will be aware, a number of players play with other Bowling clubs in the winter season, and take part in their leagues and competions. Apart from those playing indoors. One such group play outside* on Chess Vale's artificial surface, and this weekend recorded a Hot Shot during a 33-3 win for the Chalfont team against their opponents. Well done to Hazel Baker, Pam Anderson and Mike Alderton in gaining this rarely-seen achievement. (*Apologies for initially implying that ChessVale is indoors!)

RESULT ; The second match of the winter against Foxhill IBC took place on 7th Feb, with rather similar results to the first game in January. Although we lost on all rinks (144-66 overall) we came close to one winning rink when Margaret Timberlake, Denise Williams and Tim Baldwin took their opponents to the last end before succumbing. Nevertheless this was as enjoyable as usual, giving many of our outdoor members a chance to play an indoor game. It is also noteworthy that Chalfont Players predominantyly won the raffle prizes, to complete a very hospitable event.

RESULT ; The friendly match against v Watford Indoor Bowls Club took place on Tuesday 27th, and a very friendly game it proved to be. Unfortunately the opposition proved to be too strong again, on a newly stretched carpet, creating a faster-than-usual green. Despite noble attempts by Captain Mike Alderton to keep pace with his opposition, the other rinks were less successful, and the overall score is best forgotten. However we will remember the ample portions of Liver and Bacon after the game, and look forward to our next encounter, which will be against Foxhill early next month.

The Quarter Finals of the Handy Cross Shield has taken place, and unfortunately our first entry in this indoor competition has now ended with defeat to a strong Marlow Team. The issue was still in the balance with four ends to go in this match of three triples, and although Tim Baldwin's team was ahead at this stage, and Mike Aldertons trio were just one shot behind, Marlow came through strongly, and were winners on all three rinks. Well done to everyone, and better luck next year !

NOTICE ; 100 Club;

The winners for January have been picked from Rose Kirby's 'hat', as follows

Lyn Carroll £25 ; Janet Buchanan £15 ; Janet Kemp £10

RESULT ; The club has also played its first friendly encounter with Foxhills Indoor BC on January 12th where we lost by 85 shots to 149. However we had 2 winning rinks including our Top Rink of Staff Burbridge, Pat Mckay and Rob Kirby who won by 9 shots.

NB whilst this page has been updated, we apologise for the slightly out-of-date nature of the rest of the site which will be re-furbished over the next few weeks , ready for the new season. We will also be advertising the Pre-season meeting, which will be as advertised on your 2014 Fixture Card, unless otherwise adived by your committee.

NOTICE ; There is some redecoration planned in the clubhouse from around 20th January and all willing hands will be welcomed. Please contact Norman Clare who can furnish you with more details.

NOTICE ; The winter period brings the monthly social mornings run by Shirley on the third wednesday of each month, (except December when the Christmas Card exchange took place).

UNFORTUNATELY the January date of January 21st has also had to be cancelled, for a number of reasons including the planned redecoration work, Please advise any other members who may not have seen this posting, to avoid disappointment, though as above, Norman is looking for as many hands as possible for the decorating !

However the remaining dates for your diary are still OK for February 18th & March 18th. The fun begins around 10.00 each of these days, and contact Shirley if you need more details.

REMEMBER ; The club runs a popular Short Mat evening in the Memorial Hall on Friday evenings, (and sunday afternoons) and if you are interested, please contact George or Candi Ivey who can advise if spaces are available for new additions

 Many members have joined other indoor clubs in the area, including short-mat, and any news of Chalfont involvement from these will be welcomed through the winter. Please contact Tim Baldwin with anything to be posted.

NOTICE ; There is an additional Indoor match v Herts IBC in February 2015, not in your fixture card. This was originally posted as 22nd Feb, but is now finalised for saturday 21st February. If you have entered your name on the clubhouse sheet already, please remove it should this change affect your availability, and apologies for the change.

RESULT; Some members switch to Indoor bowls to keep their hand in through the Winter and the first such news from them is from the West Herts Indoor club, where Chalfont were asked to enter a team in a Ladies Gala event on 2nd October. As an outdoor club team against 19 others, expectations were not high, but our team of Flora Alderton, Denise Rogers, Hazel Baker & Candi Ivey were delighted to actually WIN the event. Well done Ladies !
